CINEMA THIS YEAR - HIDDEN TREASURES?

This Monday, it’s only going to be a short entry. So here’s a quick list of all the cinema tickets I could still find
in my pockets and bags and other hidden places. Even though I’m working as production manager until the end of the year, I might still have the time to catch one or two films until then (fingers crossed!).

What was your must-see in the cinema this year and what do I need to watch in October, November or December?

JANUARY
Life of Pi, dir. Ang Lee
Gangster Squad, dir. Ruben Fleischer

FEBRUARY
Lincoln (OV, Screen Cinema Dublin), dir. Steven Spielberg
Les Misérables, dir. Tom Hooper

MARCH
(I can’t find any cinema tickets for March – this is impossible!)

APRIL
Side Effects, dir. Steven Soderbergh

MAY
The Great Gatsby (OV), dir. Baz Luhrmann
Iron Man 3, dir. Shane Black

JUNE
The Place Beyond the Pines, dir. Derek Cianfrance

JULY
Sneak Preview: 21 & Over, dir. Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Now You See Me, dir. Louis Leterrier
Only God Forgives, dir. Nicolas Winding Refn

AUGUST
Frances Ha, dir. Noah Baumbach
The Bling Ring, dir. Sofia Coppola

SEPTEMBER
Byzantium (OV, Stuttgart Fantasy Filmfest), dir. Neil Jordan
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (OV), dir. Harald Zwart

Why is it that Sneak Previews are mostly comedies (yes, the ones about college-and-I'm-getting-pissed-and-all-fucked-up-in-one-night-but-I-have-great-friends) and that I can recommend all of the films in which Ryan Gosling plays a part (Gangster Squad, The Place Beyond the Pines and Only God Forgives that is). Well, you'll love the film and the music in Les Misérables if you're a fan of melodramatic/musical films like Across the Universe or Anna Karenina. And if you read series like Twilight, The Hunger Games or 50 Shades of Grey, don't miss either the books and/or the film The Mortal Instruments! It really is a guilty pleasure but it's amazing how many times the exact same story (okay, with some interesting little twists) can be told and screened! If you like Fitzgerald, yes, you have to watch The Great Gatsby. Watch it in English though, I suspect that the German version does not take a bow before language as the original one does.
